Hesai has entered into a strategic cooperation with WeRide, leading the application of solid-state hybrid lidar on the L4 autonomous vehicle | News

  • The two companies will join forces to promote the large-scale implementation of autonomous driving

SHANGHAI, April 29, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — About April 29, 2022, Hesai Technology, world leader in lidar, and WeRide, world leader in L4 autonomous driving technology, announced a new strategic cooperation agreement. Under the agreement, the two parties will promote the application of automotive-grade solid-state hybrid lidar autonomous vehicles, enabling the large-scale deployment and commercial application of WeRide’s autonomous driving technology.

Tony Hanfounder and CEO of WeRide, said:

“Since the two parties entered into a strategic cooperation, Hesai has been one of our most reliable partners. WeRide’s self-driving vehicle fleets have reached 15 cities around the world to begin test drives and operation, covering smart mobility, smart logistics and smart environmental services. We firmly believe in the safe, reliable and commercially viable implementation of self-driving technology, while Hesai’s automotive-grade solid-state hybrid lidar represents a new trend in the development of AD sensing components I believe this collaboration will further enhance the capability of our autonomous vehicles.”

As early as 2019, Hesai’s Pandar series lidars entered the first batch of WeRide’s hundred-unit Robotaxi fleets, successfully entering the road test and operation phase. Hesai’s lidar products have also helped WeRide commercialize China first Robotaxi service to the public in Huangpu district, Canton. The Robotaxi fleet has taxi operating licenses and charges the same fare as any normal taxi in Canton. Commercial operation entered its third year of service. The collaboration between Hesai and WeRide continues to evolve. Hesai’s lidar sensors have been integrated into WeRide’s new self-driving products, including Mini Robobus, Robovan and Robosweeper.

Li Yifan, CEO of Hesai, said:

“WeRide is an innovative global pioneer with state-of-the-art self-driving technology and a comprehensive marketing structure. We are pleased to work with WeRide to accelerate their commercial application of self-driving technology through Hesai’s latest AT128 solid-state hybrid lidar product.

From January 2022, WeRide has achieved more than 10 million kilometers of autonomous driving on public roads, combining tests and operations with more than 300 AD vehicles. WeRide’s fleets include Robotaxi, Robobus, Robovan and Robosweeper, operating in cities such as Canton, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Zhengzhou, Nankeen, WuhanBoao in China, San Francisco in the United States, and Abu Dhabi in the UAE, tested and operated daily.

The automotive-grade AT128 solid-state hybrid lidar uses Hesai’s proprietary chip technology, integrating 128 laser channels to achieve an overall resolution of 1200×128 and a detection range of 200 meters (at 10% reflectivity). It can effectively capture object details in the FOV to provide powerful perception capabilities for high-level autonomous driving, further accelerating the iteration of autonomous driving algorithms. At the same time, the highly integrated transceiver module and stable scanning structure make AT128 one of the most competitive and comprehensive lidars in the market. The AT128 will be mass-produced at Hesai’s new Maxwell manufacturing center, which will enter service in 2022 with a planned capacity of more than one million units per year.
